Naseeruddin Shah’s Ajmer event cancelled amid right-wing protests

Bollywood veteran star Nasseruddin Shah has landed in a controversy for his remarks on ‘mob violence’ in India, showing his concern for his children being a Muslim.

An event in the Indian city of Ajmer has been cancelled by the organizers where Shah was to deliver the keynote address, due to the protests by right-wing on Friday afternoon.

The veteran actor showed his concerns for his children because he imagines a situation where they may be surrounded by an angry extremist’s mob and asked: “Are you Hindu or Muslim?”, earlier in an interview.

The interview was posted on YouTube on Monday. Naseeruddin Shah said, “My children will have no answer at this moment as we chose not to give a religious education to our children”.

As being reported, Naseeruddin Shah was invited to deliver the keynote address of the fifth edition of Ajmer Literature Festival at 2.30 pm.

Before his arrival at the lit fest, some members of Hindu outfits stormed the venue, shouting slogans against the actor and holding actor’s blackened posters. Demanding the organizers to not to let the actor come to the event.

In a statement member of the organizing committee, Somratan Arya said, “We cancelled the session after the vandalism. We were concerned about our guest’s safety”.

It seems like Shah’s words turning out to be true, such right-wings groups in India prove to be so intolerant.

Shah’s comments have sparked a controversy, as he referred to the recent violence sparked by the finding of cattle carcasses in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr.

The violence was sparked by the discovery of a cow death, in which a police officer was killed by a mob. He said India has already witnessed that the death of a cow has more significance today than that of a police officer.
