At least six people including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) District Chairman and Tehsil Nazim Atif Jadoon Khan, were killed in an attack on a vehicle near Havelian on Monday.
While the police claim that it was a firing attack on the car, on the contrary, sources privy to the matter claimed that unidentified assailants targeted Jadoon’s vehicle with rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) after which the vehicle caught fire.
Meanwhile, Abbottabad District Police Officer (DPO) Umar Tufail has refuted the media reports of a rocket attack, saying a rival group opened fire on the vehicle which caused it to burst into flames.
As reported, some unidentified assailants targeted Jadoon’s vehicle near the Langra area of Abbottabad District when he, along with seven other people was returning from a nearby village after offering fateha.
DPO, a rival group had opened fire on the vehicle near Havelian’s Langra village which caused the fuel tank to explode. He refuted media reports claiming that the car had been targeted by a “rocket attack”.
DPO added said that the vehicle caught fire and was completely destroyed, adding that six people, including Atif, died on the spot while two others were injured.
The police officials have linked the incident to old enmity.
According to the Police, the vehicle was completely destroyed due to the fire while 2 injured persons have been shifted to a nearby hospital.
Meanwhile, unidentified sources claimed that at least 10 people were killed in the incident.
Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and Tehsil Nazim Atif Munsif Khan’s father, former provincial minister Haji Munsif Khan Jadoon, was also killed in 1996. His grandfather Sher Khan was also murdered.
Jadoon after winning the election as an independent candidate joined the Imran Khan-led PTI.
