14 people dead, 200 stranded due to heavy rain & snowfall in Balochistan

Heavy rains and snowfall have lashed Balochistan, killing at least 14 people in various incidents while more than 200 vehicles are still stuck in Killa Saifullah district’s Kan Mehtarzai area, reports said on Monday.

The public transport has been restricted from going into snow-affected areas, the rescue work is also underway to reach stranded vehicles where people are stuck in the affected districts of Balochistan, Deputy Commissioner Killa Saifullah said.

In the Mehtarzai area of Killa Saifullah, passenger buses are stranded carrying women and children with reports of people running out of vehicle fuel and food supplies.

Due to the harsh snowfall in various parts of Baluchistan,  the temperature has fallen to -14C, Life has come to a standstill in various districts.

Earlier on Sunday, an emergency was imposed in seven districts of Balochistan after a spell of heavy rain and snowfall across the province.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) declared emergency in Mastung, Qila Abdullah, Kech, Ziarat, Harnai, and Pishin districts.

Provincial Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan visited the PDMA and was briefed on the current weather situation. Talking to the media, he said a high alert had been issued to the commissioners and deputy commissioners.
