Cyclone Biparjoy: Sindh starts evacuations in areas along the coastline

Cyclone Biparjoy continues to gain strength after turning into an Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm (ESCS), which is likely to affect Sindh’s coastal areas on June 15 (Thursday).

BIPARJOY is likely to hit the cities and towns of the coastal belt of Sindh, between June 13 to 17 which may cause heavy rains in Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Umerkot, Tharparkar and Karachi.

To deal with the impacts of the storm, the government of Sindh started evacuations along the coastline on Monday.

As reported, the provincial government plans to evacuate around 50,000 people from Kati Bandar and surrounding areas in view of Cyclone Biparjoy.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah visited the Sajawal coastline in view of the cyclone and conducted an aerial inspection of the Sajawal, Thatta, and Badin coastlines.

On this occasion, Commissioner Hyderabad gave a briefing about the hurricane, in which it was stated that 50 thousand people will be evacuated from the villages near the sea of Shah Bandar, Jati, and Keti Bandar.

Already, people have also been evacuated from Bhagada Memon village of Badin’s zero point, he maintained.

Sindh Chief Minister was briefed that the cyclone will hit on June 15, June 17-18, the impact of the storm will be reduced, due to a slight decrease in intensity, the storm will hit on June 15 instead of June 13 or 14.

In the briefing, it was further informed that when the storm will make its impact, waves of 4 to 5 meters high will rise in the sea and the water is likely to enter into the coastal areas.
