Education ministers will discuss the coronavirus situation in Pakistan on Monday, says Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood.
In a message shared on social media on Saturday, Shafqat Mahmood informed that “We have convened an important meeting of provincial education ministers on Monday at 11 am to discuss the latest coronavirus situation in the country.”
“As stated before health of students is our number one priority”, he added.
A number of university departments, colleges, and schools were sealed across the country on reports of positive COVID-19 cases among the students at the campuses.
A day earlier, at least 17 employees of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) Jamshoro have tested positive for the coronavirus, according to lab reports.
The 17 employees reportedly include campus maintenance staff, security guards, and peons. The varsity administration has closed LUMHS from November 10 till December 1 in view of surging COVID-19 cases.
Pakistan has reported 32 deaths, and 2,443 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours, as per statistics issued by National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Sunday.
Earlier, the NCOC issued a lockdown warning and called for better compliance with Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) in wake of an increase in the country’s positivity rate, virus-related deaths, and hospital admissions.
