After the completion of polling for the Senate election at the National Assembly along with three provincial assemblies – Sindh, Baluchistan, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the results have started to pour in.
In a major blow to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf has lost the Islamabad senate seat to the opposition.
PPP and PDM’s joint candidate Yousaf Raza Gillani has defeated PTI’s candidate Hafeez Sheikh.
As per the polling results:
Gilani: 169 votes
Hafeez Sheikh: 164 votes
Total votes: 333
Votes rejected: 6
Vote not polled: 1
After the latest development, Hafeez Sheikh will have to step down in June as a federal minister and resume as the adviser to the PM on finance.

Meanwhile, former president Asif Ali Zardari got a second ballot paper by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after wasting the first one.
Zardari asked the commission to issue him another ballot paper as due to his hand tremors he made a mistake on his first one.
