Pakistani-American Ali Zaidi named Deputy National Climate Advisor in Biden’s team

Pakistani-American Ali Zaidi has been named Deputy National Climate Advisor in President-elect Joe Biden’s team.

Ali Zaidi currently serves the state of New York as Deputy Secretary to the Governor for Energy and Environment and Chairman of Climate Policy and Finance.


Taking it to social media, Ali Zaidi expressed his gratitude over the announcement.

Ali, 33, in his tweet, said, “We need a whole-of-government approach to take on the climate crisis — in a way that spurs jobs and advances justice. I was floored when President-elect @JoeBiden called. I still am — profoundly humbled, deeply honored, and so ready to get to work!.”

Ali Zaidi has been teaching as an adjunct professor at Stanford University. He has taught graduate courses on technology policy and studied the fiscal and financial impacts of climate change. 

He also co-founded Lawyers for a Sustainable Economy, a Stanford-coordinated initiative that equips sustainability-focused startups with pro bono legal services.

As being reported, immigrated from Pakistan, grew up in the Rust Belt outside Erie, Pennsylvania. He studied at Harvard and Georgetown Universities.
