Ishaq Dar appointed as Deputy Prime Minister with an immediate effect

Dar becomes the second deputy prime minister after PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi

The federal government on Sunday appointed Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar as deputy prime minister “with immediate effect.”

According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the appointment was made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The notification did not mention the description of his powers.

The appointment of Deputy PM has been made when the incumbent prime minister is in Saudi Arabia to attend the World Economic Forum special meeting.

Pakistan’s s last deputy prime minister was Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, then of PML-Q, appointed in June 2012 when the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was in power.
