11 miners shot dead, 4 injured at Machh coalfield, Balochistan

At least 11 coal miners were killed and several others were injured in an armed attack by unidentified men at Bal0chistan’s Machh coalfield on Sunday.

The confirmation of the incident comes from the Machh deputy commissioner. The event took place in the town of Harnai, located around 170 kilometers (105 miles) east of the provincial capital, Quetta.

According to the Police, the unidentified gunmen took the coal miners to nearby mountains and opened fire on them.

The incident has left several in critical condition. The injured were taken to the Machh hospital for treatment.

The police and FC personnel have arrived at the location and an investigation is underway.

According to the official of Levies Force, Moazzam Ali Jatoi, the attack took place near the Machh coalfield, about 48 kilometers (30 miles) east of the provincial capital Quetta.

He added that armed men took the coal miners to nearby mountains, where they opened fire on them. He said six of the miners were dead on the spot and five who were critically wounded died on the way to a hospital.

Chief Minister of Balochistan Jam Kamal has strongly condemned the Machh coalfield shooting incident and ordered concerned officials to submit a report of the incident.

Furthermore, Provincial Home Minister Mir Zia Langau strongly condemned the attack on workers in the Gushtari area of ​​Mach, Balochistan, and has directed the authorities concerned to submit an investigation report of the incident.

“No stone should be left unturned in the arrest of the accused,” he said. “An unsuccessful attempt is being made to sabotage the peace of the province,” the home minister added.
