Emirates announces plans to cut single-use plastics on flights

Dubai airline Emirates has decided to cut single-use plastics on board its aircraft.

The airline took the initiatives to reduce environmental pollution and in an effort the network has introduced eco-friendly paper straws in all its flights.

Emirates has been dealing with various long haul manageability activities, the airline said in a statement adding that plastic swizzle sticks and stirrers would also be replaced with eco-friendly alternatives by the end of 2019.

The plastic bags used for inflight retail purchases would also be replaced with paper bags from August.

The network, in a statement said by doing the major eco-friendly initiatives, Emirates will be able to remove an estimated 81.7 million plastic items annually from landfill.

The staff and cabin crew of Emirates flights have been giving ideas and suggestions to attain eco-friendly environment and trials have been conducted to explore various recycle initiatives.

On a broader aspect, the airline has been segregating larger plastic wastes on board to be recycled in Dubai and other countries. The initiative will remove about 3 tonnes or 1,50,000 plastic bottles from landfill in Dubai each month.
