Uber ceases the operation of its app in Pakistan
Uber, renowned ride-hailing platform Uber Tuesday announced ceasing the operation of its app in Pakistan.
However, its subsidiary brand Careem will continue to operate in the country.
“We’ve made the decision to cease operating the Uber app in Pakistan,” a spokesperson for Uber said.
“Our subsidiary brand Careem will continue to operate, with the Careem app offering ride-hailing services across Pakistan and earning opportunities for drivers,” the spokesperson added.
The developments come after Uber, back in 2022, announced scaling back its operations in the country and limiting it to Lahore — which the company had continued till now.
Uber acquired its rival Careem for $3.1 billion back in 2019, announcing the two companies would continue to operate their respective regional services and independent brands.
Careem operates in 10 cities across Pakistan including Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Multan, Faisalabad, Abbottabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Quetta.
