People demand ‘Justice’ for Lahore teenager allegedly beaten to death by teacher

Another incident of brutality shook the nation. Hafiz Hunain Bilal, a tenth grader was allegedly beaten to death in his school by his teacher for not memorizing a lesson on Thursday.

The news of the killing of a 17-year-old boy after being tortured by his teacher spread like wildfire and people expressed their deep anger on social media calling for justice for Hunain and the capital punishment of the teacher who allegedly killed him.

A Twitter user who claimed to be Hunain’s cousin has shared a series of post on her Twitter handle explaining how the young boy has died.

The girl, Rimsha Naeem, wrote on her Twitter handle that the teacher struck his cousin’s head with his knuckles and then hit it against the wall of the classroom that led the boy immediately unconscious and fell on the floor.

“Hafiz hunain Bilal was physically tortured by his teacher named Kamran Hashmi because he didn’t learn his lesson at school. The teacher struck the innocent child’s head with his knuckles and then banged his head against the wall. That inhumane being even kicked the poor soul.”

She went on with revealing the fact that Hunain classmates, in the meantime, tried to intervene but it was all in vain as he died on the spot.

“Hunain’s friends tried to stop the teacher when it got out of control but by that time they could get ahold of the teacher, he was out of breath. The teacher brutally slapped him more than once across the face and when he fell on the floor”.

The user further mourned the death of the innocent soul, “You left us too soon, I can’t imagine another day without you. My heart aches to know that he was brutally murdered and yet no one took any action. He deserves all the justice in the world. Twitter do your thing,” she wrote.

While responding to the explanatory tweets, Minister for Economic Affairs Division Hammad Azhar extended his sympathies to the grieved family and said that Hunain’s school was located in his constituency and he will personally deal with the case.

“My condolences to the family on this tragic incident. The boy’s family and the private school is located in my constituency in Lahore and I am personally monitoring the case. The teacher is in jail and I will ensure that him and the school is dealt with as per law.”

Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Human Rights, Dr. Shireen Mazari termed the incident as “Horrific” and denounced corporal punishment being practiced in various educational institutions.

“This is absolutely horrific but sadly not the first incident to happen in schools in various parts of the country. Corporal punishment cannot be allowed and our Corporal Punishment Bill has been with Law Ministry 4 vetting. Hoping it gets expedited fast. Our children r our future,” she said.

Twitterati also expressed their outrage and disbelief for such a cruel act.

It is pertinent to mention here that the teacher and the school’s principal were arrested after the incident occurred on Thursday and the First Information Report (FIR) has also been lodged against them.
