Squid Game Season 2 confirmed to return this year on Netflix

Season 2 series will feature the return of Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun as Seong Gi-hun and Front Man,

Squid Game Season 2 has been confirmed to be arriving sometime later this year on Netflix.

The sequel to the original Netflix series will feature the return of Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun as Seong Gi-hun and Front Man, respectively. 

The other cast of the much-anticipated sequel will also feature  Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, and Won Ji-an.

The South Korean survival drama series which debuted in September 2021, follows cash-strapped contestants participating in children’s games for a colossal prize of 45.6 billion won or USD 38.3 million, with deadly consequences.

The series became a global sensation quickly and it was followed by Squid Game: The Challenge a ten-episode British reality competition television series inspired by “Squid Game.”

The reality competition show featured 456 players who put their skills to the ultimate test for a life-changing $4.56 million prize.

Netflix announced the second season of Squid Game from creator Hwang Dong-hyuk in a letter to shareholders on Tuesday.

The letter also revealed plans for the release of other highly anticipated second seasons, including The Diplomat and the German show Empress, along with the third chapter of Bridgerton.

The Letter reads: “Looking ahead, despite last year’s strikes pushing back the launch of some titles, we have a big, bold slate for 2024. Audiences will be able to choose from hit returning dramas like ‘The Diplomat’ S2, ‘Bridgerton’ S3, ‘Squid Game’ S2 and ‘Empress’ S2; unscripted series like ‘Tour de France: Unchained’ S2,’ Love is Blind’ S6, ‘F1: Drive to Survive’ S6 and ‘Full Swing’ S2; and brand new shows like ‘3 Body Problem’ (based on the best selling novel and from the ‘Game of Thrones’ showrunners), ‘Griselda’ (starring Sofia Vegara, which premieres this week), ‘The Gentlemen’ (from Guy Ritchie), ‘Eric’ (starring Benedict Cumberbach), ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’, ‘Cien Años de Soledad,’ from Colombia based on the novel by Gabriel García Márquez and Senna from Brazil.”
