Fawad Chaudhry disapproves KP government’s decision to celebrate Eid on June 4

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday disapproved the decision of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa (KPK) government to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on June 4.

The minister termed the decision a ‘disgrace’ as it was not possible to see the Shawwal moon on June 3. He said that the ‘religious festival’ can not be celebrated on the basis of a lie.

“You can’t celebrate a religious festival on the basis of a lie,” Chaudhry said in a statement.

Chaudhry claimed that the decision was not only inappropriate but it caused humiliation and gave a perception that the state itself is responsible for supervising lies. Government should refrain from becoming a part of local disputes.

“The government does not get itself involved in [religious] sects and local disputes, people are free to celebrate Eid but a religious festival should not be based upon lies,” he said, “We want people to be held accountable for their actions.”

The minister also assured that the problems subjected to moon sighting will be resolved soon citing the launching of country’s first moon sighting website and Hijri calendar.

Earlier, On Monday the provincial government of KP announced to celebrate Eid on June 4 after taking into account the testimonies of moon sighting from all over the province.
