Gas leakage from ice factory in Karachi’s Korangi area prompts mass evacuations

Several residents fell sick after ammonia gas was leaked from a cylinder of ice factory

Gas leakage from an ice factory in Karachi’s Korangi area prompted mass evacuations on Wednesday.


As reported, at least three citizens including a minor girl went unconscious after inhaling hazardous ammonia gas which leaked from a cylinder of the ice factory located in the Zaman Town, Korangi area of Karachi.

The residents from the surrounding area of the factory were evacuated while the authorities sealed the affected ice factory.

As reported, the affected including a 70-years old woman were moved to hospital.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Korangi, Tariq Nawaz, a minor girl fell sick after inhaling the hazardous gas and was moved to the hospital.

The gas leakage has been stopped and police have been deployed to control the situation after furious area residents gathered around the factory, he added.

According to the residents, around half the area was affected by inhaling hazardous gas.
