Two policemen were martyred in an attack targeting a polio team in Bannu.
As reported, two policemen guarding a polio vaccination team in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district were martyred while two others sustained injuries on Tuesday after unidentified armed men opened fire at them.
After a six-hour-long operation, the law enforcers were able to kill the assailant.
In the course of safeguarding the polio team, the police squad came under attack.
The attack prompted a swift response from the police who retaliated against the assailants.
As reported, during the exchange of fire, one of the attackers sustained injuries and sought refuge in a nearby house.
Two police personnel, identified as Fiazuddin and Sikander Khan, entered the residence where an attacker had taken refuge. During the pursuit of the assailants, they were martyred within the premises of the house.
A significant police contingent surrounded the residence where the attacker took refuge and after a six-hour-long operation, the assailant was killed by the law enforcers.
The house where the attacker took refuge was also demolished during the operation, the news source said.
Meanwhile, two police officers were wounded in the operation and they were transported to a hospital to receive medical assistance.
The incident comes a day after five policemen were martyred while 27 people were injured in a blast near a police van in the Mamund tehsil of Bajaur district.
