India thrash Sri Lanka by 302 runs to qualify for World Cup 2023 semis

The Kusal Mendis side was all out for 55 runs

India thrashed Sri Lanka by 302 runs to qualify for World Cup 2023 semis at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

India bowled out Sri Lanka for just 55 in 19.2 overs after setting a massive 358-run target in the 33rd game of ICC World Cup 2023.

Mohammed Shami bagged five and Mohammed Siraj three wickets to give the hosts a thumping win of 302-run margin.

Tonight’s result is the fourth-largest margin of victory by runs in the history of men’s ODI cricket, the second-largest margin at a World Cup (trailing only Australia’s hammering of the Netherlands a week ago), and India’s biggest win at a World Cup.

While batting first, Half-centuries from Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Shreyas Iyer helped India to reach a huge target of 358 runs.

After Rohit Sharma’s (4) early departure, Kohli and Gill stitched together a mammoth 189-run stand for the second wicket to set India up for a big total.

Madushanka removed Gill for a run-a-ball 92 and then Kohli for 88.

In the second innings, India’s seam attack ripped through the Sri Lankan batting lineup in a dominant display under the Wankhede Stadium lights.
