Netherlands destroys South Africa in a major upset of the World Cup 2023

The Dutch side registered its first win in the mega event by beating South Africa by 38 runs

The Netherlands destroyed South Africa in a major upset of World Cup history.

One of the greatest days in the Netherlands’ history as they defeated South Africa by 38 runs while defending 245 runs at the HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala, on Tuesday.

The Netherlands overcame an early stutter to post 245-8 in the first innings of the rain-hit 43-over World Cup match against South Africa.

The inning that Dutch Captain Scott Edwards played today will be remembered for ages.

Also, the all-around contributions from 38-year-old Van Der Merve steered the Dutch side to register the first win in the mega event.

South Africa found themselves a disastrous start while chasing an average target and went 44-4 in just 11.2 overs with reliable batters including Bavuma, Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aidan Markram all returning to the pavilion.

Scott Edwards’ team remained dominant in the second innings, exerting pressure on the Proteas throughout their chase of the target.
