PM Imran Khan launches Pakistan’s first environment-friendly E-Bike

Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched Pakistan’s first locally manufactured electric motorbike (E-Bike) on Thursday.

Addressing the launching ceremony, the prime minister congratulated Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar and his team for planning the project.

The E-Bike has been manufactured by a Pakistani company Jolta Electric and is considered a major step towards electrifying the country’s automobile industry.

The E-Bike is energy efficient and requires low maintenance.

This E-Bike launch is part of the present government’s five-year Pakistan Electric Vehicles Policy 2020-2025, approved last year that envisaged targeting a robust electric vehicle market having a 30 percent and 90 percent share in passenger vehicles and heavy-duty trucks by 2030 and 2040 respectively.

“It will give birth to a new industry in the country and create employment opportunities for the people,” PM said, welcoming the electric vehicle project.

PM added that the imports benefit only a few people and mafias change the policy to get the benefit.
