According to the Senior Mumbai police officer Sanjay Mohit, the charges against Republic TV founder Arnab Goswami are linked to the deaths of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother, which police concluded to be suicide.
He further added that a suicide note has been found by the police, and determined to have been written by Naik stating that he took his life because Goswami and two others owed him a huge sum of money and had refused to pay it back.
His arrest is being critisied by several Union ministers and senior BJP leaders and called it an “attack on freedom of press”.

Blatant misuse of state power against Republic TV & Arnab Goswami is an attack on individual freedom and the 4th pillar of democracy.
It reminds us of the Emergency. This attack on free press must be and WILL BE OPPOSED.
Goswami is known for supporting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his nationalist policies in his news shows, often yelling down at the opponents.
