One Artist Creates Banana Art, Another Artist Eats the Art
The famous banana art that has broken the internet for being sold at $120,000 at Miami’s Art Basel has now been eaten in front of spectators who looked appalled.
While Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan created the banana art – a banana hung to the wall with duct tape – another artist David Datuna ate it as a part of the art performance.
“It wasn’t vandalism, it was art performance from me and absolutely I am not sorry,” said the Georgian performer who comfortably took off the banana titled ‘comedian’ at the art exhibition, peeled it off and ate it as onlookers gasped in confusion.
He was accused of disfacing another artist’s work and disrespecting art. In his defense, Datuna called Cattelan a great artist and called his action art performance.
“In this case, it’s not like I ate art. Like the gallery said, it’s not a banana, it’s a concept. And I just ate the concept of the artist. So I think this is cool, this is fun, this is what art is about,” added Datuna.
