Karachi will get the Eid ul Adha Cattle Market set from May 10.

As the major religious festival also known as Bari Eid is just around the corner, the date to establish a much-anticipated cattle market in the metropolis has been announced.

The cattle market, claimed to be Asia’s largest, to facilitate animal purchases in Karachi will be set up in Taiser Town at Northern Bypass from May 10 this year, the authorities announced.

According to the notification, ATMs and temporary branches of major banks will also be set up so that people can easily withdraw money if they purchase an animal for sacrifice.

Facilities for traders are also being increased including a free supply of 30 litres of water per person along with a free provision of land for cattle sheds, the notification added.

An ambulance will also be available for emergency medical assistance in the cattle market if a mishap happens or someone gets injured.

As reported, the size of the cattle market will be over 900 acres, where more than 700,000 livestock, including cows, goats and lambs will displayed for sale.

To facilitate buyers and sellers temporary food stalls and parking lots will also be set up.

Furthermore, to ensure the health of sacrificial animals they will also be inspected. And the authorities have made a certificate from the Veterinary Department mandatory to confirm the animals are healthy.

Eid-ul Adha is expected to be celebrated in mid-June, depending on the sighting of the moon of the holy month of Zil Hajj.
