“Have a wonderfully meethi Eid”, says Chef Mehboob Khan

“Its mango season with many other fruits like grapes, peaches, and cherries so I suggest go for fruit based deserts for Eid and post Eid parties”, suggests Pakistan’s top chef, Mehboob Khan while talking to OY and sending his Eid greetings to all his fans.

It’s been several years since chef Mehboob has been associated with many cooking shows on different TV channels and people successfully cook following his recipes. We asked him if there is any request which he gets all the time and something which might annoy him and here’s how Mehboob Khan replied “It’s been years that I am doing cooking shows but it’s every year before eid that people request for the recipe of Sheer Khurma. I know it’s our traditional sweet dish but people should try for something out of the box now. And secondly even we are done with a whole week of biryani recipe on a cooking show, the very next week there comes a request , please make some biryani”, shares Chef Mehboob.

OY also asked how the master chef spends his Eid, “The first day is for relatives. The whole day is spent in greetings, meetings, visiting relatives along with my brothers. Second day is for selective ventures and third day is spent at my mother’s place”. While telling this, the Chef also reveals how he is the one cooking all the time at all occasions at home.

As OY asked him who decides menu at the home, the chef replied laughing, “Being married doesn’t leave me with much choice, mostly at home the menu revolves around the children and what they prefer to eat, so we mostly cook that. Namkeen Rosh is my most favorite, it is the native dish from where I belong and it’s a must on menu on both the Eids”.

It will be a surprise for many people that this culinary expert in various cuisines is himself fond of desi Pakistani food. The chef reveals, “My most favorite is desi food, if you ask about foreign dishes I like steak and Japanese food. But is a fact that here we have limited audience with that pallet, so when I crave for Japanese food I make some for myself”.

Chef Mehboob Khan was working successfully in Germany in year 2000, but he preferred to return Pakistan even after being opposed by many including his brother, “ When I came back I felt like being freed from jail. I just wonder why people think that it’s a big achievement to live abroad”, said Chef Mehboob while sharing his thoughts.

Adding further to it he revealed, “When I came back my brothers were very annoyed calling me mad. I could have easily stayed there as I had work visa and several working opportunities”.

Pakistan’s top chef also told his audience how it had been for him in Pakistan. “It’s almost 17 18 years being back and I have never regret any moment for coming back to Pakistan. My brother asked me after a couple of months how it was going as he thought I must be fed up after having some tough time. Though it was a tough summer with lots of load shedding, water issue and many other problems and my only reply was: I just love it”.

Chef Mehboof also gave his greetings and wished his beloved fans a very happy and a wonderfully Meethi Eid.
