Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to hit theaters on December 20.

Does Amber Heard have a reduced role in Aquaman 2?

Despite rumors and controversies, Amber Heard will be seen reprising her role as Mera in Aquaman 2.

However, Amber, the female lead in 2018’s first Aquaman film, barely appeared in the newly released sequel Aquaman and the Long Kingdom trailer.

The sneak peek into the much-anticipated film has left fans wondering if Amber Heard has a reduced role in Aquaman 2 amid the divorce battle with Jhonny Deep.

The first full trailer for the DC sequel features the actress, 37, for one fleeting moment or maybe two.

In the trailer, Arthur aka Aquaman describes himself as a “husband and a father” and is seen caring for a baby, whose mother is presumably Mera and he gets himself a new partner the arrogant King Orm (Patrick Wilson), his half-brother,

Well, Heard has previously claimed that her role as Mera, the love interest to Jason Momoa’s title character, was reduced in the wake of her headline-dominating court battles with ex-Johnny Depp.

In May 2022, Amber addressing the Aquaman sequel at the trial, said that her part was “pared down” because of all the negative publicity surrounding her legal battle with Johnny.

“I fought really hard to stay in the movie, they didn’t want to include me in the film,” she said on the stand.

“I was given a script and then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it that depicted my character and another character, without giving any spoilers away,  two characters fighting with one another,” she added.

“They basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch out.”

James Wan confirms Amber Heard’s reduced role

Meanwhile, Aquaman 2 director James Wan in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, squashes speculation that Amber’s performance was reduced due to the court case.

Wan maintained the sequel would focus on Arthur’s relationship with his half-brother Orm, played by Patrick Wilson.

“I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go. The first Aquaman was Arthur and Mera’s journey,” he said.

“The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm. So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one is a bromance action-adventure movie. We’ll leave it at that,” he added.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to hit theaters on December 20.

The sequel film also stars Nicole Kidman as Arthur’s mother Atlanna, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the supervillain, Black Manta.

2018’s Aquaman grossed $1.1 billion globally and is still DC’s most commercially successful film.

Let’s see how the much-anticipated sequel will fear at the box office, and will Amber Heard’s presence affect on film’s business.
