Karachi: 11 killed,10 injured in stampede during ration distribution near Naurus Chowrangi

At least eleven people were killed and ten others were injured in a stampede during the distribution of ration in a private company near Naurus Chowrangi on Friday.

The incident occurred while people were gathered at a dyeing factory in the city’s industrial area to collect ration.

According to the rescue officials, the deaths occurred as the women fell into a drain during the stampede.

The deceased include three children and eight women.

The injured, some of them reported in critical condition have been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

According to the police officials stated that a huge number of people were gathered at the site when the ration was being distributed.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Muhammad Mughees Hashmi in a statement to media said that the area police confirmed that the incident took place because of a stampede.

He added the local police station was not informed prior to the distribution.

seven people have been arrested so far and an investigation has been initiated, SP Hashmi said.
