Saif Ali Khan-starrer Amazon Prime’s web series Tandav faces legal action after facing backlash in India. The new web series come under fire for allegedly depicting Hindu gods in a negative light.
An FIR has been lodged against series director Ali Abbas Zafar and writer Gaurav Solanki at Lucknow’s Hazratganj police station late on Sunday night, accusing them of hurting the Hindus’ religious sentiments and denigrating the Hindu Gods.
The FIR states that the Hindu Gods and Goddesses have been denigrated at the 17th minute of the first episode of the web series. Similarly, at the 22nd minute of the episode, there are remarks denigrating castes,” it added.
The FIR also says that the objective of the web series appeared to be to incite religious sentiments of a particular community and foment communal tension.
”A case has been registered. We are investigating the matter. We will take appropriate action,” said a senior police official.
While BJP leader Ram Kadam has launched a ‘Joote Maro’ Movement against the OTT platform.
Earlier on Sunday, BJP leader Ram Kadam said that he has filed a complaint at Mumbai’s Ghatkopar Police Station against the series.
On Monday he said he will be going to the offices of Amazon Prime Video and seek an apology as part of the ‘Joote Maro’ movement.
As being reported, BJP MP Manoj Kotak has also written to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar seeking a ban on the series for ridiculing Hindu deities.
Meanwhile, social media tends with the views seeking a ban on the series.
