Dalgona Coffee: The internet gets a new favourite drink

Dalgona Coffee turns out to be the newest internet favorite during these dull quarantine days.

This latest sensation, not many know that it’s originally the South Korean coffee treat that has gained worldwide popularity.

Have you tried it out yet? Is it as easy to make as it looks in tons of circulating photos on the internet to be?

If you search out for the recipe,  it shows that Dalgona Coffe contains just three ingredients – all of which you probably have in your kitchen – you feel like you’ve won the jackpot when everything seems to be impossible because of lockdown in various areas.

That’s why, over the last few days, people have been sharing their attempts at making Dalgona coffee.

 This whipped drink is very simple to make!

All you need to make it:

Instant coffee granules – yep, almost everyone got it in stock
Water – almost a free of cost ingredient
Sugar – just name a household which doest has sugar

Milk- cold or warm, to serve.

How to make it:

First, they mix two tablespoons of instant coffee or espresso powder, two tablespoons of sugar, and two tablespoons of very hot water.

You can use a hand mixer, if you don’t have it, use a spoon or fork, constantly stirring the concoction until it turns from brown to beige and becomes a thick, foamy texture.

Then spoon the mixture on top of a glass of hot or cold milk, vola!

This now known Dalgona Coffee has been a very popular treat in South Korea in the 1970s and 80s – before the American fast-food chain, McDonald opened in South Korea in 1988.

According to a Korean food expert, it was created after the Korean war (1950-53), during which US Army personnel gave out confectionery to local children.

As a majority of the parents were unable to spare money for providing any treats to their, started trying to make their own versions and thus by the time this treat evolved to be our present version of Dalgona Coffee.
