Adnan Siddiqui sets score straight with Priyanka Chopra for calling Sharmeen Obaid a South Asian
Adnan Siddiqui sets the score straight with Priyanka Chopra for calling Sharmeen Obaid a South Asian instead of Pakistani.
It all started after Indian film actress Priyanka Chopra in a social media post congratulated Pakistan’s Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy after it was revealed that she will be directing a Star Wars film.
Priyanka wrote on her Instagram story: “First person of colour and the first woman to direct a Star Wars film…and she’s South Asian!! What a historic moment @sharmeenobaidchinoy. So so proud of you my friend! May the force be with you!”
However, Pakistan’s top actor Adnan Siddiqui was least impressed with PeeCee for calling Sharmeen a South Asian.
Taking to Twitter, along with a screenshot of Priyanka Chopra’s post, the Meray Paas Tum Ho actor told her that this was exactly like she would identify herself as an Indian.
“With due respect, Priyanka Chopra, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy is a Pakistani first just to brush up your knowledge. Much like the way you flaunt your Indian nationality whenever you get the opportunity before claiming to be a South Asian,” Adnan Siddiqui wrote.

And Pakistani tweeps acknowledged Adnan Siddiqui’s comments!
You cannot erase pakistan from international narrative no matter what you try. Sharmeen is a Pakistani and she should be called that you cannot brush nationality under your pretext of fake unity. How many Indian stars would say south Asian on winning an accolade no they are…

Arent non indians the ones always calling indians south asians to steal credits from hardworking indians?? Y'all literally force indians to refer to their achievements as south asians. Remember referring to the oscar winning rrr to south asian when the cast insisted it was indian https://t.co/dixsuSkZRZ

Lol. Indians never stop bragging about themselves as Indians but when it comes to portray any Pakistani icon, it becomes "South Asians" 😂 Modi Sarkar must be proud of you Priyanka Chopra 🤡 https://t.co/kbWU1tBUoX

if Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy were Indian, those drunk on Modi's jingoism would have omitted 'South Asian'
however, we Pakistanis could also be more self reflective
we don't just quietly disown our own; we tend to be cruel, mean, leg pullers
Pakistan erasure starts with us https://t.co/TJhCFi9J6N
