Dubai Metro, Tram operations to be suspended from April 5

Dubai Metro and Tram services are to be suspended from Sunday, April 5 until further notice, Gulf News reported.

According to the emirate’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), all stations on the red and green line of the Dubai Metro are to be shut.

Dubai RTA announced that its public bus services will be free of cost for persons allowed to leave their homes during the extended two-week quarantine period using the Nol card.

It has also been announced that Dubai cab services will offer a 50 percent discount.

According to a circular by Serco, the body responsible for the operations and maintenance of Dubai Metro, retailers have been told they will not have access to their stores during this period.

The move comes as part of Dubai’s measures to tackle the coronavirus pandemic and as the UAE reassures its commitment to combat the coronavirus with the UAE National Disinfection Programme, which will continue from 8pm to 6am, across the emirates.

Meanwhile, the UAE has recorded one new death over the past 24 hours bringing the total to 10, according to the Ministry of Health spokeswoman Dr. Farida al-Hosani.
