All about this year’s Oscars

The much-anticipated event of the entertainment industry, the Academy awards 2019 were handed over to the winners in L.A, Sunday night.

Queen and Adam Lambert launched this year’s Oscars with a medley of hits that replaced the usual opening speech at this year’s hostless 91st Academy Awards.

This was the first Oscars awards night in 30 years which was held without a host. As the comedian, Kevin Hart stepped down in December after the controversy which erupted over his old social-media posts.

This year history was created at the Oscars as for the first time, seven black men and women won Academy Awards for various categories in front of and behind the camera. At this year’s awards, women had the best night ever with record 15 winners were females.

One of the other highlights of the evening was Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s intimate ‘Shallow’ performance.


“Green Book,” won the best picture, Oscar. The film based on the true story about a friendship between an African-American pianist and a white bouncer touring the Deep South in the early 1960s, and it won two other awards in best original screenplay and best supporting actor (Mahershala Ali) categories.

The top acting awards went to Rami Malek, for playing Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody”, and Olivia Colman won the best actress award for playing Britain’s Queen Anne in the film”The Favourite”, while, Alfonso Cuaron won the best director for his film “Roma.”

Black Panther has picked up Marvel’s first Oscar for Best Costume Design in a Motion Picture for the work of designer Ruth Carter (Selma, Malcolm X, Love & Basketball). Besides making Marvel history, Carter is the first black woman to ever win in the Costume Design category.

The Academy Awards also honoured Stan Lee in the Memorium segment.

Best adapted screenplay: “BlacKkKlansman,” Spike Lee, Charlie Wachtel, David Rabinowitz, and Kevin Willmott
Best foreign language film: “Roma” (Mexico)
Best documentary: “Free Solo”
Best visual effects: “First Man”
Best cinematography: “Roma,” Alfonso Cuarón
Best production design: “Black Panther”
Best costume design: “Black Panther,” Ruth Carter
Best makeup and hairstyling: “Vice”
Best film editing: “Bohemian Rhapsody,” John Ottman
Best original score: “Black Panther,” Ludwig Goransson
Best sound editing: “Bohemian Rhapsody”
Best sound mixing: “Bohemian Rhapsody”
Best documentary short subject: “Period. End of Sentence.”
Best animated short film: “Bao”
Best live action short film: “Skin”
