Lady Gaga and Angelina Jolie are in a battle over Cleopatra role

Actresses/singer Lady Gaga and Angelina Jolie are reported to be in a battle to land a chance to play Cleopatra in mega-budget film reboot.

The film, being produced by Sony, is based on Stacy Schiff’s biography of the Egyptian queen. Screenwriter David Scarpa is working on a script for this new reboot.

As being reported the Oscar-winning Angelina, 43, has been in on-off talks for months with studio bosses at Sony overplaying the part, which was essayed by Elizabeth Taylor in a 1963 film version.

On the other hand, Lady Gaga, 32, is also in consideration for playing the iconic role of Cleopatra after the massive success of A Star Is Born. Which gave Gaga a successful big screen debut.

A senior production source at Sony has revealed to an international publication: Cleopatra was known as the Queen of the Nile, and Elizabeth Taylor firmly established herself as Hollywood’s queen in the 1963 film version. There’s every reason to think that whoever gets to play her this time around is going to enjoy an equally lofty perch in the motion picture industry.

The 1963 film considered of the Hollywood’s classic won four Academy Awards and it also sparked controversy over Taylor’s on-set affair with co-star Richard Burton. Who later got married and divorce,  twice.

The film was termed at the time as an “epic historical drama”. But as being reported the new Sony’s Cleopatra reboot is being touted by producers as a “dirty, bloody political thriller told from a feminist perspective”.

Let’s see who is going to get roped in for the titular character!
