Load Wedding director Nabeel Qureshi opens up regarding unfair competition

Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2, Parwaz Hai Junoon and Load Wedding, released on Eid ul Azha ready to fight for the number one positions. While it was known that the battle would be tough, it was not perceived that it would be unfair too.

While Nabeel Qureshi’s directorial, Load Wedding starring Fahad Mustafa and Mehwish Hayat received immense love and positive reviews, the film failed to get an equal number of screens at cinemas.

Taking to Twitter, the filmmaker shared his views regarding the other two films getting ‘unfair’ advantages. “This is bizzare hieght of injustice !!!”

Talking to a local publication the director revealed his film is suffering because of an ongoing dispute between the distributors and cinema owners.

“As exhibitors, it’s their job to give an equal amount of shows to all the local films that are releasing on the same day. If one film fails to perform well, the show times can be reduced – which was not the case.” he said mentioning the reviews that have been pouring in.

Nabeed added that for a good competition, all the films releasing on the same time should have gotten the same amount of shows in cinemas across the country. “But JPNA2 was getting 50% of all shows and Parwaaz Hai Junoon took another 30% to 35%, leaving Load Wedding with a mere 15% to 20%,” he shared.

Disheartened by the discrimination he confessed that young and aspiring film-makers will not be able to survive if the monopoly continues to exist. “We’re not fighting for our fair share at cinemas anymore. We’re fighting for the future of the industry and other independent film-makers,” he concluded.
