Sridevi’s sudden death of a cardiac arrest in Dubai has left the entire world in a state of shock. Condolences have been pouring in not only from India or Pakistan but from around the globe, wherever she touched lives. Over her 50-year career, Sridevi had worked not only in Bollywood but also Tamil, Telugu and Kannada movies and established herself as the top superstar.
Over years, the iconic actress delivered a number of hits, but a few of her films have been our absolute favorite. With her no more amongst us, Sridevi will continue to live on in our hearts through the films she delivered. Let’s talk a walk down memory lane, with our own favorite Sridevi films in no particular order;
Mr. India (1987)
Hawa Hawaiiii, the iconic song is still remembered to date and is form one of our favorites Sridevi and Anil Kapoor starrers of all time. Mr. India revolved around Anil Kapoor who secretly finds the formula to become invisible and fight the evils of the world. Sirdevi played Mr. India’s love interest and a journalist sharing the house with the man, she didn’t know was Mr. India himself.
A naagin, (female snake) marries a human to avenge the death of her snake spouse, Nagina is considered one of Sridevi’s best performance to date. Nagina starred Rishi Kapoor, Prem Chopra and Amrish Puri in significant roles alongside Sridevi. The film’s song, “Main Teri Dushman, Dushman Tu Mera” is considered the best Bollywood snake song, dance number of all times.
This romantic love story was what we call an absolute classic. It also gave us our favorite lead pair for the time. Remember “Mere Hathon Main Noo Noo Churiyan Hain” and “Chandni O Meri Chandni” the iconic hit song was from this Rishi Kapoor, Vinod Khanna and Sridevi starrer Chandni.
Recall the song “Kisi K Hath Na Aaye Gi Yeh Larki,” yep, the very same one, it was from our personal favorite Chaalbaaz starring Rajnikanth, Sridevi in a double role and Sunny Deol amongst others. The film was a comedy, based on the lives of two sisters Anju and Manju and how they get separated only to fight for their rights.
A love story with a significant age gap, although the subject was relatively new for people at that time, Lamhe, starring Sridevi and Anil Kapoor became a huge success. It is also counted as one of Sri’s best work to date!
Starring Urmila Matondkar, Sridevi and Anil Kapoor in the lead, Judaai was an amazing story that talked about a married woman being waylaid by money and resorting to striking a deal in exchange of her own husband. The film was a huge success and one of our favorites.
Starring the beautiful Sridevi as a mom to Sajal Aly, the film displayed sheer strength of a woman as a mother. Sridevi’s commendable performance in Mom landed her this year’s award as best actress as well. Mom portrayed Sridevi in a powerful role and will be remembered as her last performance of her life.
Sridevi ruled hearts for more than three decades straight and still continues to do so. She was the ultimate queen of Bollywood and will live on in her hearts forever.
