Aaron Sorkin hints about a possible sequel to The Social Network

The possible sequel is likely to be focusing Facebook’s role in the January 6, 2021 Capitol Hill Attack

Aaron Sorkin has hinted about a possible sequel to The Social Network.

“The Social Network” a 2010 biographical drama film directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin, was based on the founding and rise of the social networking website Facebook, focusing on Mark Zuckerberg and the legal battles that ensued after its creation.

The film’s writer, while appearing on The Town podcast with Mathew Belloni, teased about its possible sequel.

The possible sequel is likely to be focusing Facebook’s role in the January 6, 2021 insurrection (United States Capitol attack).

“I blame Facebook for January 6”, said Aaron before adding that he couldn’t explain the connection at the moment and that Mathew had to “buy a movie ticket” to find out.

At this point, the host Mathew Belloni was prompted to call it a ‘quasi-sequel’ of the original film.

Aaron Sorkin added, “Facebook has been, among other things, tuning its algorithm to promote the most divisive material possible. Because that is what will increase engagement”.

“That is what will get you to, what they call inside the hallways of Facebook, the infinite scroll.”

The original film received critical acclaim for its direction, screenplay, acting performances, and portrayal of the complexities of ambition, friendship, and betrayal.

The film also won three Academy Awards in 2011 for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Film Editing, and was nominated for five others, including Best Picture and Best Director.
