Hindu supremacist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that has been carrying out atrocities against all minorities and especially Muslims since it came in power, has demanded to remove Tipu Sultan and his father Hyder Ali from history textbooks for being anti-Hindu.

The ruling party and other Hindutva organizations have claimed that Tipu and his father cannot be celebrated as great kings because they came in power after oppressing and killing many Hindus. BJP has also raised the issue over the celebration of Tipu Jayanti in India, introduced by Congress.

As per BJP’s demand filed by MLA Appachu Ranjan in Karnataka state, the two kings should either be omited from the books or re-written by showing the two kings as tyrants.

The decision on the matter is still on hold as the textbook committee is soon scheduled to meet and discuss the issue.
