Asia Bibi leaves Pakistan for Canada after acquittal in blasphemy case
In 2010 Asia Bibi, a Christian, was convicted in a case of blasphemy. After being kept in confinement for 8 years, the Supreme Court of Pakistan, last year, in October 2018, acquitted her. The Supreme Court maintained that the case was based on unreliable evidence and Asia Bibi’s confession was delivered in front of a crowd “threatening to kill her”.
After her acquittal, Asia Noreen aka Asia Bibi was released from the jail but kept at a secret location to protect her from hardcore fanatics threatening to kill her. Preparations were underway for Asia Bibi to leave Pakistan and now, according to news doing round, Asia has safely landed in Canada, where her two daughters have been granted safe asylum earlier.

In Pakistan, since 1990, at least 65 people have reportedly been killed over claims of blasphemy. Asia Bibi was the first woman to be sentenced to death over blasphemy laws.
Actually Asia Bibis alleged arrival or departure has not been confirmed by any official sources, including her lawyer.

Her lawyer, Said Ul Malooq has stated that he has not spoken to her directly but learned through some sources that she has left. Until this is independently and officially confirmed by the Canadian authorities and she is seen on Canadian ground, I have reservations about the veracity of this news. It wouldnt be the first time a victim disappears and our government claims she has left at her “own free will”. If our people had freedom and choice, the government would not put people on No Fly Lists or bar them from travelling due to protests from opponents. It is worth knowing that even her lawyer has had to flee into involuntary exile until things calm down in Pakistan. Why? because he dared defend a christian woman accused of blasphemy. He has not spoken to Asia Bibi directly about her alleged departure.
