The development was announced on Wednesday by PTI’s Barrister Ali Zafar that Chairman Imran Khan will not be contesting the intra-party polls which are scheduled for December 2 (Saturday) due to his legal problems.
He also confirmed that Barrister Gohar Khan had been nominated for the slot of party chairmanship in a “temporary arrangement” by Imran Khan.
Speaking to the media outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in Islamabad today, Zafar recalled that Imran had been convicted in the Toshakhana case as he highlighted the incumbent party chairman’s legal challenges.
PTI Senior Vice-President Sher Afzal Marwat late Tuesday confirmed that Gohar Khan will be the PTI’s candidate for chairmanship., hours after Imran Khan decided against retaining the top post due to legal hurdles as the party heads towards internal polls.
“Barrister Gohar will be the PTI’s candidate for chairmanship. The PTI chairman [Imran] has said that Gohar will be his candidate for the post,” Marwat said during his conversation with a private news channel, as Imran remains behind bars in Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail and entangled in legal battles.
