Justice Qazi Faez Isa sworn in as 29th Chief Justice of Pakistan

However, his tenure as CJP will be quite brief, as he is set to retire from the position on October 25, 2024.

Justice Qazi Faez Isa was sworn in as the 29th Chief Justice of Pakistan on Sunday, September 17.

President Dr Arif Alvi administered the oath at a ceremony held at Aiwan-i-Sadr in Islamabad following the retirement of his predecessor Umar Ata Bandial a day earlier.

The ceremony started with the recitation of the Holy Quran, following which the notification for Justice Isa’s appointment was read out.

Justice Qazi Faez Isa‘s wife Sarena Isa was standing beside him as he took his oath from President Arif Alvi.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir were also in attendance at the ceremony.

Top court judges Justice Ayesha Malik, Justice Shahid Waheed, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Yayha Afridi also attended the swearing-in ceremony.

Former CJPs Iftikhar Chaudhry and Tassaduq Jillani also attended the ceremony.

Justice Isa took oath as the Supreme Court’s judge on September 5, 2014.

Despite being the senior puisne judge, Justice Isa was not assigned any constitutional case for the past three years, following a presidential reference filed against him in 2019.

However, his tenure as Chief Justice of Pakistan will be quite brief, as he is set to retire from the position on October 25, 2024.

Notably, he is the second CJP from Balochistan.
