Shehbaz Sharif sworn in as the 24th Prime Minister of Pakistan

Newly elected PM Shehbaz Sharif's cabinet is yet to be announced.

Shehbaz Sharif has been sworn in as the 24th Prime Minister of Pakistan.

The outgoing President Dr Arif Alvi administered the oath to the newly elected prime minister
at the Aiwan-i-Sadr on Monday afternoon.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar was also present at the ceremony.

Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff General Sahir Shamshad were also in attendance at the oath-taking ceremony.

The ceremony was attended by Nawaz Sharif, former president Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and the chief ministers of Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan Maryam Nawaz, Murad Ali Shah and Sarfraz Bugti.

Meanwhile, leaders of the country’s mainstream political parties including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Mutahidda Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), among others, attended the oath-taking ceremony.

Ambassadors and diplomats from different countries were also present at the ceremony held at the President’s House in Islamabad.

PML-N leader Shehbaz Sharif was elected as the Prime Minister after securing 201 votes in the National Assembly on Sunday.

His opponent, Sunni Ittehad Council’s Omar Ayub Khan, received 92 votes.

After the oath-taking ceremony, Shehbaz Sharif received a guard of honour upon arrival at the Prime Minister’s House.

Caretaker PM Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar welcomed the new premier on his arrival at the Prime Minister’s House.

As reported, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar  Kakar has vacated the PM House, but he will continue to perform his duties as premier till the issuance of notification of the new chief executive of the country.

He has been allotted a house in the Minister’s Enclave.
