Veteran journalist Shahida Kazi passed away in Karachi on Saturday. She was 79.
Her funeral prayers will be offered at Jamia Masjid Faizan e Bismillah, Sunny Side Road, Civil Lines after Zuhar at 1:15 pm Sunday, 29 October 2023. She will be laid to rest at the University of Karachi Graveyard subsequently.
Former chairperson of Karachi University’s Mass Communication Department Shahida Kazi was undergoing treatment for the past few days at Karachi’s Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital.
As reported she was admitted this morning to Civil Hospital Karachi Surgical Ward-4 in a highly critical condition.
After graduating as the first and only female student Journalism Department of KU, she was Pakistan’s first female correspondent for Daily Dawn, in 1966,
That was just the start of a decades-long successful career in print and TV journalism.
After working as a reporter for the paper for two years, she joined state-run Pakistan Television (PTV).
At PTV she reached the position of first-ever female news editor during her service for the next two decades.
After her retirement from KU, she continued teaching at different universities including Karachi’s Muhammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU), and Jinnah University for Women.
