Viral conjunctivitis cases surge to near 100,000 in Punjab
Viral conjunctivitis cases have surged to nearly 100,000 in Punjab, raising alarms over the extremely contagious infection.
The sources within the Punjab Health Department claimed that as many as 10,269 cases of pink eye infection have been reported across the province in the last 24 hours, exceeding the 90,000 mark.
The highest number of pink eye infection cases were reported in Bahawalpur with 1,540 people suffering from the infection.
Meanwhile, 1,132 have been reported in Faisalabad, 1,048 in Multan 608 in Rahim Yar Khan, and 452 patients in Lahore.
Keeping in view the situation, the Punjab government has announced closing all private and government educational institutions across the province from Thursday (September 28) to Sunday (October 1).
In September 2023, there was an occurrence of conjunctivitis, commonly referred to as pink eye, in multiple cities across Pakistan, and Punjab is worse affected.
