Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan’s resignation has been accepted!

The President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi accepted the resignation of Supreme Court Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan on Friday.

According to a press release issued by the President’s House, Justice Ahsan had resigned under Articles 179 and 206(a) of the Constitution.

It added that the president accepted his resignation on the advice of Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar.

The third senior-most judge of the Supreme Court had stepped down abruptly a day earlier, without mentioning any specific reason.

In his one-page resignation letter sent to the president on Thursday, Justice Ahsan described his time in the apex court as an “honour and privilege”.

He added “I no longer wish to continue as a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
