Supreme Court overrules Arshad Malik’s petition to continue duties in PIA

The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected Air Marshal Arshad Malik’s plea regarding continuation of his duties as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) executive office.

Arshad Malik had approached the top court after the Sindh High Court ordered the termination of his duties as the airline’s chief.

During the hearing at Supreme Court, Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed made remarks that the airline was a national asset and not someone’s private property saying that the court won’t allow anyone to play with PIA’s fortune.

In his remarks, the chief justice further said that a case pertaining to appointments in the national carrier had already been filed on the basis of human rights.

Later the court disposed off the petition saying that all petitions related to the national airline will be merged into a single case. The apex court bench also summoned the record of the pending case in the SHC.

Supreme court also directed the board of governors of PIA to run the affairs of the airline.
