Is Umar Siddiq batting his way into the Pakistan squad?

Umar Siddiq is clearly a marked cricketer. He was with Islamabad United before. PSL 4 saw him move to Multan Sultans. The franchise has had a though tournament so far. Yet Umar Siddiq is impressed people with his batting. His fortunate that he has been given chances as a opener, and James Vince has stuck form at the same time. This gave him some time to ease into this relatively new surroundings.

Scores of 53, 20 and 46 have brought the spot light on him. Yesterday, he should have had another 50 but was perhaps reckless after a bit of a dressing down from his skipper for a dicey single. Adrenaline rush to get over that moment perhaps got the better of him. Yet he has proved his prowess against decent quality bowling at the stage closest to international matches.

After the ban of Sarfraz Ahmed against South Africa, Mohammad Rizwan got a fair chance in the side on the back of tremendous performances at the A level. However, in that series and so far in PSL Rizwan’s stock has gone done south. The World Cup format will perhaps allow players to be rested. In that case, Pakistan could opt for Siddiq as the backup keeper. Given the vulnerability of Pakistani top order, he could be an option at the top.
If he continues his good run in the PSL, he would certainly come in consideration for the Australia series.
