AB de Villiers, Shoaib Malik, Luke Ronchi, Shane Watson (twice), Rile Rossouw, Umer Akmal, Corey Anderson, James Vince, Cameron Delport, Dan Christian, Hussain Talat, Chadwick Walton, Shan Masood, and Sohail Akhtar, this is an updated list of all of Umer Khan’s wickets during the Pakistan Super League. This is a trend. The boy from Rawalpindi was not bowled by his captain in one of the games. What a colossal mistake that was.
With Karachi buoying out, Umer Khan’s audition at the big time has come to an end. Finishing with 15 wickets in 10 innings, he is currently the 3 highest wicket taker in the tournament. He picked up a wicket every 13.6 ball, which absolutely outstanding. Rashid Latif credit Kabir Khan for recommending this boy to him for the Kings. Multan Sultan’s Nadeem Khan has also worked with Umer Khan in now the defunded United Bank Limited’s cricket team.
While the world revels in the rival of leg spin bowlers, Pakistan have tried to follow suit and given Yasir Shah yet another chance to prove his white ball skills against Australia. In comparison to Umer Khan, the leg spinner has had a rather poor PSL. Perhaps, Ahmed Shehzad was right, in saying that PCB was in haste to announce the squad for Australian series. They perhaps didn’t want to alter the combination too much and bring in players to plug holes in the squad like a bowler with extreme pace or a lower order hitter. Or they simply wanted to beat the media by announcing it mid PSL, and negate dissection of their choices.
Whatever the reason, Umer Khan deserved a chance after proving his quality against the very top players, on pitches in UAE or the flat tracks in Karachi. Although, even if he misses out, the boy is just 19. We should get used to seeing this two finger kissed for the heavens celebration.
