Robert Downey Jr has shared behind-the-scenes photos of the final scene he shot for Avengers: Endgame aka the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s, the iconic ‘I am Iron Man’ moment.
The star has been constantly sharing the throwback images from the iconic Avengers series for the fans keeping them posted from what the actor himself and other went through during the film shoot.
While taking it to Instagram, Robert Downey Jr captioned the post, “In the still of the night… #TeamStark #thankyou (📸 @jimmy_rich ) #3000 #videovillage #flashback #throwback”, while sharing a series of behind-scenes-photos.
The photos shared, show the close-up of Downey Jr, as he snaps his fingers and reverses the catastrophic events of Avengers: Infinity War.
Avengers fans know very well that it is the Iron Man’s final act of heroism in the series, as he succumbs to his injuries shortly afterward, surrounded by friends and family.
The thing to notice in these images is that the Gauntlet on Tony Stark’s arm seems to have been an entirely CGI creation; Downey Jr snaps his actual fingers in these images.
It was earlier when the director duo of the film Joe and Anthony Russo in recent interviews revealed that the scene was the final thing they shot for the film after their editor had the inspiration of having Tony say the iconic line.
Earlier versions of the scene showed Tony Stark simply snapping his fingers, but not responding to Thanos’ line, ‘I am inevitable’.
The Russo brothers also revealed that Downey Jr had to be convinced to return to shoot of the film for this shot, which they got in January 2019, mere months before the film was released.
Co-director Joe Russo in an interview to CinemaBlend shared that “It’s an interesting story. I had dinner with (Robert Downey Jr.) like two weeks before we were supposed to shoot it. And he was like, ‘I don’t know. I don’t really want to go back and get into that emotional state.
It’ll take… it’s hard.’ And crazily enough, Joel Silver, the producer, was at the dinner. He’s an old buddy of Robert’s. And Joel jumps in and he’s like, ‘Robert, what are you talking about? That’s the greatest line I’ve ever heard! You gotta say this line! You have to do this!’ So thank God that Joel Silver was at dinner because he helped us talk Robert into doing that line.”
Downey Jr has played Tony Stark/Iron Man in Marvel Cinematic Universe films, first appearing in 2008’s Iron Man.
The MUC films have made RDJ became one of the highest paid actors in the world. Robert Downey Jr. reportedly has earned at least $75m from last year’s Infinity War, which grossed more than $2bn at the box office.
