Germany reports 2000 coronavirus cases in 24 hours

Germany has reported 2,000 coronavirus cases during the last 24 hours, the highest number of cases since the end of April, health authorities said on Saturday.

As being reported by the RKI disease control institute, it registered 2,034 new cases and seven more deaths, taking the death toll to 9,267 and confirmed cases to 232,082.

Daily infection cases have surge sharply in recent days, with authorities suggesting that a large numbers of returning tourists may be taking the viral infection with them.

Wheareas, various health experts have emphasised that a big increase in the number of tests being carried out.

According to the spokesman of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Steffen Seibert “The growth we’re presently seeing in the number of cases is troubling”.

“We should be worried,” Seibert added, urging the public to act “responsibly” by sticking to the measures like social distancing and mask-wearing to curb the pandemic.
