Jurm Episode-1 and 2 Review: A roller coaster ride of shocking revelations

Has Daniyal really orchestrated the kidnapping and murder of his wife Ayla?

Jurm, Geo Entertainment’s newly started drama is a mini-series yet again a 7th Sky Entertainment production. This crime thriller is penned by Shah Yasir and directed by Mehreen Jabbar. The cast of Jurm includes Wahaj Ali, Durre Shehwar, Tooba Siddiqui, Atiqa Odho, Etheshaamuddin, Tanzeen Hussain, Zhalay Sarhadi and others. We have really gotten bored of watching serials getting dragged up to 40 episodes. So in between such stagnant content, a mini-series is like a breath of fresh air.

The story begins with a newlywed couple Daniyal(Wahaaj Ali) and Ayla (Duree Shehwaar) both going on a dinner date when after the dinner Daniyal tries to give his wife a surprise by taking her on a  Dhabba situated on Highway to order her favourite Kashmiri Chai. It is shown that Daniyal orders three cups one for his driver too but before they get their cups of Chai some gunned goons barge into the car.

The goons at gunpoint took the driver out of the car and then we hear a gunshot at a distance. Then they tried to kidnap Daniyal but fail to take him into the car, he is left lying there injured in bewilderment. Goons kidnaps Ayla and they are trying to take her somewhere where she tries to escape but ends up getting caught and shot. Both episodes were like a roller coaster ride of shocking revelations.

Apart from the story and plot the characters are so well crafted one of which is Daniyal’s mother’s (Atiqa Odho) demeanour, apparently being a cool and calm lady who indulges herself in Yoga and meditations all the time and is least concerned to console his grieving son is indeed making her the most interesting character of the play. Another one is Mujeeb Sahab who apparently seems a decent guy but it seems that his character has layered too. We know that they both were not happy with Daniyal marrying Ayla. Then there is grieving Naseema (Tanzeen Hussain) it’s so good to see Tanzeen on screens.

Samina’s (Tooba Siddiqui) character is yet another intriguing character why is an office employee given so much authority that she is running almost all the matters of the family as well isn’t it strange? It is so good to see Maha as a freelance journalist who is taking a keen interest in Ayla’s murder case. The first twist of the story is that driver is alive and he is behind the kidnap and murder. The second twist which has blown our minds is that the Police come and arrest Daniyal after arresting and investigating the driver! So has Daniyal really killed his own wife? Bone-chilling and thrilling!
