Google Doodle commemorates Iconic Bollywood actor Amrish Puri on his 87th birth anniversary

The most celebrated villian of Bollywood was born on 22 June 1932 in Lahore.


The tech giant, Google is celebrating the 87th birth anniversary of late Bollywood actor Amrish Puri. The doodle featured  the sketch of late Puri in a white kurta and black shawl on Saturday, inspired from his look in the film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le jaenge’, made by artist Debangshu Moulik.

He has more than 200 films to his credit in over half a dozen languages, that include Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Punjabi, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, and English.

The legendary actor gave one of his most memorable performances at the age of 55 playing Mogambo in the 1987 cult classic Mr. India, in his deep-voice “Mogambo khush hua” become his signature dialogue.


Another of the most iconic role he played was of Chaudhry Baldev Singh Yash Raj’s romantic film ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ in 1995. Puri’s line ‘Ja Simran Jaa, jee le apni Zindagi’ became one of the most memorable lines in Bollywood’s history.

After working in the theater and doing voiceover parts, Puri made his Bollywood debut in 1971 in the film Reshma Aur Shera. He became the most celebrated villain of Bollywood.

Amrish Puri also acted in a couple of Hollywood films as well. Puri played Mola Ram in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, after initially turning down director Steven Spielberg’s offer.

Spielberg persisted until Puri agreed to do the role, had even said, “Amrish is my favorite villain. The best the world has ever produced and ever will.”

Puri who was born on 22 June 1932 in Lahore, passed away on 12 January 2005 due to brain hemorrhage.
