The glitz and glamour of the Pakistani drama industry in 2023 attracted not just the domestic viewers, but internationally.

OyeYeah has picked the 5 best dramas of 2023 that kept people glued to screens.

With the year coming to an end, let’s explore some finest dramas that received massive praises and instilled an air of vivacity.

Tere Bin

Geo Entertainment’s Tere Bin turned out to be a huge hit leading the show runners to announce season 2 of the drama.

The mega-hit series concluded after airing 58 episodes. Despite being a nonsensical trashy romance, the serial has set new records and standards for our drama industry.

Tere Bin became a massive hit not just in Pakistan but in all South Asian countries where Urdu is understood, trending on top of YouTube as well.

The main leads of the drama Wahaj Ali and Yumna Zaidi also achieved new heights of stardom.

However, PEMRA also issued a warning to Tere Bin creators over inappropriate content in Episode 47.

Kabli Pulao

Green TV’s drama Kabli Pulao with an unconventional storyline served as a treat for viewers.

The story of a simple Afghani refugee Barbeena (Sabeena Farooq) who ended up marrying a 51-year-old Haji Mushtaq (Ehteshamuddin) has our hearts.

A family drama that turns true to our times by quoting examples from daily life is what we need to see more on screens when there are productions based only on glamour and never-ending sensationalism.

The credit goes to Green Entertainment for producing a good drama penned by Zafar Mairaj and brilliantly directed by Kashif Nisar.

Kuch Ankahi

ARY Digital’s Kuch Ankahi, a joint venture with Kahsf Foundation, proved to be a breath of fresh air with its progressive storyline where women are shown in a constructive light whether to be outside of the home for work or study.

This drama has revived the good old memories old the PTV era, penned by Muhammed Ahmed. Nadeem Baig deserves all appreciation for his brilliant execution.

Mayi Ri

ARY Digital’s production Mayi Ri based on the issue of child marriage grabbed eyeballs.

The story followed an untraditional line, bringing the prevalent culture of child marriage and its effects on the family associated with it.

Mayi Ri featured young actors Aina Asif as Annie and Samar Abbas as Faakhir, who are cousins married to each other amid family ties.

Introducing young actors in the main leads also received praise. However, the boldness of the characters also left eyebrows raised.

The drama also drew flak for showing the 15-year-old newly-wed lead character Annie pregnant.

Jannat Se Aagay

Geo Entertainment’s other drama Jannat See Agay could not be missed from the list of best dramas of 2023.

The story written by Umera Ahmed attracted viewers and kept the audience engaged right till the end bringing up the ugly side of the show biz industry targeting the morning show culture.

The cast with their performance, added to the drama’s engagement value.
